After School Matters at Las Manos Gallery!

Schurz High School students in the After School Matters photography program attended the youth-based show featuring their work at Las Manos Gallery on Sunday. The program is a part of a non-profit organization that encourages students to experience out-of-school activities including science, sports, tech and art. The students featured at the gallery shot film and learned to process by hand. Several students sold work during the opening. Thank you ASM for making the gallery's Sunday memorable!

Michael McGuire's Collage

Gallery Artist Michael McGuire's collage photographs are true to form! Instead of his usual Photoshop wizardry, scissors, glue and paper became his prevalent tools. McGuire senses that the progression of the digital world has begun to accelerate beyond people's ability to grasp it. To slow down the process he took photographs of his urban environment and re-arranged them by hand, adding a human touch to the process...

A detail of Michael's collage- a whisper of the city behind the boarded-up apartment building.

Paul Clark and his Fuji Prints

Single image from Clark's Fuji Instaprint series

Clark & Ainsle (Oct 9, 2011)

Paul Clark's brick series stems from his wanderings through Chicago alleyways. Fuji Instaprint camera in hand he captures light, pattern and geometric inconsistencies that give the brick walls he photographs  an abstracted look. Together in grid form they create a feeling of color and movement but fittingly enough recreate a wall, built up image by image...

Paul Clark is a Chicago Photographer that has shown in places such as the Silver Eye Center for Photography, PA., Fort Wayne Museum, IN., of Art and Rockford Art Museum, IL.

Photographer Lara Dorsett

In the winding and graffiti covered streets of Berlin one can become lost and inspired by its rich and volatile history. Overgrown and often abandoned one ruminates on the delicate relationship this city has with its past and imagined future. Fluss Trรคumerei and Fluss Phantasie are meditations on precisely this complex relationship between one’s own malleable past and wildly imagined future.

Taken in Berlin in the spring of 2011 I found that even in the act of gazing into the river I found infinite possibility in both realms of reverie and fantasy that often become confused much like the distorted reflection of Maybachufer, a street I often walked.
