Environ I is an ongoing series of film and video
loops. These fragmentary moments offer the viewer a very simple gesture
of suspension, but in so doing introduce the possibility of a missing
whole, existing elsewhere. Though they are self-contained, the feeling
that they have been removed from a larger narrative, or perhaps are made
in replication of a piece of one, surrounds the simplicity of their
form with the tension of uncertainty and the possibility of absence.
Hefner's film work, drawings and screen prints will be featured in Dystopia, which runs March 30th - May 1st at the gallery.
